I really like the idea of having 'self-sufficient' characters, so whenever I roll a new alt, I make a sort of game out of it for myself, seeing how long it takes to reach certain amounts of gold. There's a number of things I've found to sell quite well for me, relative to vendoring, and I'm wondering if any of you have noticed low level moneymaking opportunities of your own.

Boar/Wolf meat: I read this one on this site or somewhere else, but I think it bears mention. They go for 50s/ea on my server.

Low level ranged weapons: I personally don't get this one. Apparently lots of people still don't use the heirloom items, because I've been able to sell level 15 and below green bows (and sometimes guns) for 10g each. Best part is, it costs next to nothing to control supply. There's seldom more than 2-4 bows listed in that level range, and they're always listed for a few silver.

note: Be careful as engineers can craft low-level guns and may flood the market leveling their prof.

low level gems, ore, fish, deviate scales, and such all sell well too, of course, but those are staple goods. What items surprised you with their AH potential when you were leveling an alt?

Whenever I get a whisper for gold I tell people to go farm boar meat in Durotar. They sell for a gold each all the time on my server. When people start leveling, cooking is an after thought. One of the best ways to catch up quickly is with the boar meat.

Darkshore makes gold fast. Selling the crawler claws, crawler meat and clam meat all make a good amount of money. Westfall of course is also a good source of similar meat. I know the crawler claws go into a meal that restores both health and mana so I would assume that twinks are buying to feed themeselves in battlegrounds. But the others I don't know why they go so well.

I have ten characters Horde side on my main server, and two characters Alliance side on a seperate account, same server, so I think I can say a little bit about alt leveling safely.

I've earned a lot of money from eggs. Small Eggs, Giant Eggs, Raptor Eggs...pick what size stack you sell them in properly, and you'll do great. Bear Flanks are another good one, thanks to how difficult leveling cooking can be on that last stretch to 285.

BoE Defias gear sells well, too, as a lot of higher level rogues realize they want it just for looks, and would rather only have to farm the BoP pieces.

Light Feathers used to sell well, but glyphs changed that...now I can't get rid of them.

Linen Cloth, Silk, Mageweave, and Runecloth all go as fast as I can post them on my server (we're all achivement hounds) because of the people that got the Bloodsail title and want to earn their Goblin rep again.

Low level herbs and skins don't sell 'great', but they do sell, and for somebody just starting out on an alt, that makes them a viable method of earning gold.

Hope these help.

I'll second Boar Meat and all fabrics as very quick sellers. On my server, any leather up to Rugged Leather is going to sell as well. I like to take my DK to the Barrens and load up on light leather.

I found an interesting youtube clip about lvl 13-14 crawlers for a 600g/hr farm post (tested and its true :O )

ok 600g/hr depends really on your server but on my server 2/3 items the crawlers drop go for 4g each (and sell at that price really good)

Neat stuff. When you get to level 35ish and go the the Badlands (Horde mostly I guess), Elemental Earth off the rock elementals goes for over 12g/ea on my server.

Wool, Silk, Mageweave, and Runecloth are also used for the 5 rep cloth turn-ins. Aweseome easy XP, especially for DKs (the first Runecloth turnin is 10k XP with rested + shoulders).

Chunk of Boar Meat - Auctions for 2-5 gold per stack. Not much but in Elwynn Forest there are level 5-6 boars which you need to kill for a quest. You can do this almost immediately after leaving the start area.
