Hey everyone, my name is Matt and I'm recently back to WoW after around a 6 month break. I also recently got my 2 buddys into this game and I decided to transfer my main character to a server of their liking. I've attempted to do the classic Obsidium Shuffle. The prices for enchanting mats are horrible on this server with stacks of Hypnotic dust going for around 10g, leaving me unknowing of what to do with the shuffle. All the green gems prices are also going from 1g to 5g.

Where You Are

1. Please list the level, class, race and professions (and skill level) of your main and any alts above level 5 you have on your server, and on other servers if you plan to transfer them to your current server.
85 Hunter, Mattdaamon Dranei, 535 Jewelcrafting, 525 Engineering. My only alt is a level 71 DK with no professions.

2. What type of server are you on (Normal, PvP, RP, RP-PvP) and what is its population level and faction balance?
PvP, alliance kind of owns this server. It's highly populated.

3. How much gold do you have across all your characters? Do you have any large quantity (stockpile) of potentially valuable items?
I recently spent 4k on my DK's epic flying, leaving me around 1600g which I attempted the Obsidium Shuffle with leaving me with the gems not knowing what to do with them because of pricing.

4. Is there any in-game activity that you absolutely cannot stand and will not do? Approximately how much play time do you have in a typical week?
Not necessarily, I pretty much like doing everything. Daily's get on my nerves though. I play every night, some more than others. The nights that I don't really play are around 9-11:30 and then on other nights probably around 4 hours a night.

Where You're Going

5. What is your short term gold making goal (e.g. Buy a Vial of the Sands)? It's best to define goals in specific terms instead of general terms; for instance, "100,000 gold" is specific but "never having to worry about being broke" is too vague to determine if you actually have achieved the goal.
I want to get to around 25,000-30,000 gold before MoP drops.

6. What is your long term gold making goal (e.g. 100,000 gold)?
Probably around 50,000.

7. Before now, what have you been doing to make gold?
The Obsidium shuffle, I've never had over 18k gold at one time though.

8. How successful have you been? If you made less gold than you expected, or lost money, please try to describe in as much detail as possible the process you went through and what happened afterward. Remember, more detail is better.
Pretty successful until lately, since I tried it again I'm left unknowing of what to do with the gems everything is so cheap.

9. What aspects of gold making do you want to learn more about? What research have you done before now?
Probably playing the auction house but I'm bad with that kind of thing.

10. What is your tentative strategy for making more gold in the future?
Whatever it takes honestly, I'm broke right now so I need to make some gold :)

Help would be much appreciated, thanks guys :)

Sincerely, Tonno

When flat broke, farming is the thing. :ugeek:
I'd put Herbing/Mining on that DeathKnight and farm it to level 85, just sell everything on the AH

What about my Jewelcrafting? I was planning on putting enchanting on my DK to be able to DE the greens from JC. I think that might be expensive though. I should just farm on my DK? What about the ore? No prospecting? It just seems like there should be something else I could do..

Thanks,
Tonno

What about it? You can still do your dailies to collect more recipies, but if your server is anything like mine, competition is fierce and margins are low

Having an extra option for Goldmaking is never bad, but the general rule while leveling is to have Herbalism/Mining on anything professionless.
Once your DK is level 85, I see no reason to not go ahead with you disenchanting plans ;)
You're right about enchanting being expensive to level, but if you have the bagspace to keep anything BOP for disenchanting, go ahead and hold on to stuff.
It's also easy to farm mats once you're max-level

Yes, farm the ore and sell it on the AH, don't prospect it unless you can calculate it to be profitable.
For instance:
-> one stack of Obsidium ore gives 6 Cata green gems on average
-> supose one of each color, so add the prices at which they sell (not at which they're on AH!!!) minus the AH fee for those six
-> if that sum is above the price of a stack of Obsidium, it might be worth it
-> to eliminate risks: asume only one of the most expensive green per two stacks (in general this would be the red or the purple one)

You need a good starterfund to minimize risks, one step at a time for now :ugeek:

Would you do the shuffle with enchanting prices being so low? Hypnotics are at around 8-10g a stack. Greater Celestials go from 40-60g Jasper at around 5g ea, nightstone around 11g, carnelian around 20g, Hessonite will prolly be made into jewelry to get d/e'd along with Carnelian because I think those are the ones that get the most Greater Celestial essence. It just seems I get stuck with green gems and am not making any profit margin.

Use the force ... I mean your calculator or spreadsheet ...
If even the worst case scenario gives you a big enough profit (once again, use your own brains to determine what "enough" is) then go ahead ;)
