I remember that some parts of the week is better for certain things but I cant remember when.

Was the weeked better for selling because there are more people around?

or is it the other way and weekends are bad because more people flooding?

Depends what your selling.

Anything raid orientated ie flasks etc best to put up early on a Wednesday, just before your prime time so anyone not prepared for raids grabs them.

Enchants and gems are best closing time Wednesday when people have just picked up any new gear they want to improve.

Start of weekend is great for when people are leveling alts etc, so anything out there to help people level ie low quality gems for random gear players pick up.

Any gathering stuff you want to avoid listing on a Sunday evening as that is usually when supply is crazy higher than demand. But its good if for buying if you plan on flipping or getting bigger profit margins on professions or shuffling.

Just think of times when you as a player would buy stuff and when you would look for it, as long as you don't have a crazy schedule you should be able to match up.

Everything is server dependent.

You need to buy when everyone is selling. You need to sell when everyone is buying.

Simple right?

If it were that simple everyone would be rich and there would be no need for this froum, right?

Also theres more to it than that. For example.

Two weeks ago the price of whiptail fell to 39g a stack and elementium ore 29g a stack. Which is the lowest I have ever seen them. For months the normal price of whiptail / ele or was 60ish / 45ish a stack.

So based on everything I read it was worth buying to resell right?

So thats what i did. I bought 25k worth of the mats thinking I would resell soon and almost double my money.

So guess what? the price seems to have dropped for good. For the past 2 weeks whiptail has been 30 a stack and ele ore is down to 20 a stack. And I have been seeing people selling in bulk in trade for even less than that.

So it seems I lost a great deal of money. But back to my point, its not as easy as you make it sound. At this point I may just re-list everything and deal with my losses.

This is why it is important to learn your market before you play the auction house. Some people are so focused in the "What is happening?" and forget to ask "Why is this happening?" Without the why, you may be buying into a market that has just died.

Wednesday in EU, Tuesday in US.

Funny how gear's post didn't include this bit of information. He made it sound so simple.


Also gear, the only reason this forum exists is to help people make gold. If someone has a question about making gold and you have nothing productive to say then why even reply?

We dont come to this site for people who already know how to make gold to laugh or insult us. we dont care for the elitist mentality. This is a forum about making gold yet you have to search VERY VERY hard to find any useful information. I probably read though about 20 pages and 90% of the posts were older members trolling newer member when they ask for gold advice. If you guys dont want to be productive and help newer members learn all the tricks then why does this site even exists?

well guess what. I did that. I should not have to go to posts thats more than a year old to find helpful advice.

A great many posts on these forums state simple truths. They may seem obvious once you read them, but they're no less helpful for that.

To put things another way, what Gear stated is that you have to watch each market you intend to play with for a while, as things are different on each server. Take flasks, for instance. Each server's raiding nights might differ.

Also, regarding your seemingly unprofitable venture, it looks like you've been messing with long-term trends and not a daily/weekly cycle.

Buying first thing when you wake up..prices are generally lowest.
People in china/india/asia area countries play while you sleep and post and you wake up to collect the cheap mats.
For selling nothing beats putting up crafted items at 5pm Friday with 48 hour window.
More people level on weekends then any other time.

Kiro, not sure how you'd like me to respond. I read the title and posted with the best 'broad truth' answer that is available. If you'd like, I can qualify all future answers with 'On my server...' but that does not help you on your server (unless we share servers). Also you can tell me which server you play on and I can investigate your server for a few weeks and report back the ebbs and flows.
Your surd regarding whiptail was interesting but completely irrelevant to this post. I'm not being mean, and apologize if I come off as such, but this thread is about timing on a weekly cycle. Your experience is getting caught buying on an ebb when you thought (hoped) you were buying on a flow. So you have two options. One, sell now; cut your losses and chalk that one up to experience. Two, if you have the cash reserves you can hold the whiptail and wait to see if the whiptail will appreciate in price.
You, me, we all have professions you need to learn your professions. You need to understand what is valuable for your profession and what isn't. You need to know what crosses professions and what doesn't. When you know a few of these items you can begin to work those markets. If you can learn all of those items you can control a market. There is no sense stockpiling black vitriol or golden pearls.
Use your knowledge base to make informed decisions when buying and selling. Don't guess because you 'think' you are making the right decision.
