Well considering how many people AREN'T stockpiling pyrite right now because they expect blizzard to do something different, blizz would be in the clear to put them in the pyrite ore.

I agree they will of course add it to alchemy (its not alchemy if your not transmuting :P ) but don't put it pas blizz to throw us a curve ball by throwing us a straight ball O.o

Also, like I've mentioned before, I'd rather stockpile and fail than not stockpile and see others succeed.

I grabbed 6 tabs full of Pyrite so far, however I've only paid 75g per stack. I'm confident in this price, I should still be able to turn a modest profit from the 44K I currently have invested in it right now even if Blizz doesn't add Epic gems to the prospecting table for the ore.

If I could find it on my server for 75g a stack .. I would have 6 tabs of it too. I have almost one and that is snatching everything at 120g or less. Botters seem to be engaged in Elementium atm.

There also is the posibility that they make a jc daily CD with 3 of each rare turn into a random epic.

What will suck is if they employ all of the ways that they might release epics at once.

You completely missed transmuting them with alchemy.

If Alchemy is the only source of epic gems, there's only 2 possible scenarios once the patch hits.
1) There's a cooldown on the transmute, and prices are ABSURD. Gems are much much much more scarce than any gem in the history of the game. They would never do this, because it's retarded.
2) There's no cooldown on the transmute, and prices are rock bottom. Gems are so common you can hardly give them away, much like rare gems are now. They would never do this, because it's retarded.

I fully expect Pyrite and JP/HP to be the sources for gems, and probably an alchemy transmute with a 20hr cooldown as we've seen previously.

Why would this neccesarily mean that prices will be rock bottom? The transmute could involve other mats that make the gems extremely valuable. For example, the mats for a transmute to the epic red gem could be 3 x Inferno Ruby 20 x Heartblossom and 1 x Maelstrom Crystal.

My theory for the reason why rare gems are worth so little now is because the common gems have such a high value. If you buy stacks of elementium ore for so cheap that you make profit purely on vendoring/crafting/DEing the common gems then any blue gems are instant extra profit.

Could be people that were hoarding it for epics got cold feet and decided to cut their potential future losses.

Or that the value of Pyrite Bars/True Gold has dropped significantly, probably due to an easing off of sales of rare/epic crafted items.

On my server it went from 300g to 140g in less than a week. I guess it's panic. Pyrium doens't feel so safe when green gems will sell for 0.75g.

Thankfully, as a clothie, with an alt who mines/herbs, I've been stockpiling this stuff since I could mine it. I've tripped across many a pyrite in farming for my flasks for raiding (because starting prices for flasks on my server were so steep I'd rather drink bleach!) I've not really needed it for my professions... so... I saw no need to use it - and while I sold a stack or so here and there for quick cash, I kept most of it, knowing the inevitable epic gems would come out of it.

Occasionally I would offer some to a guildie who would run short and need it for an oh-so-needed epic while we were gearing for the raids (we were raiding within 2 weeks of launch... I was just minutes away from server 1st priest, so I had plenty of time to stockpile and laugh at people leveling).

Now I can sit here with my hands idly folded on (yeah 6 tabs) of pyrite ore, and a second guild bank full of other mats. (Herbs, gems, etc. for transmutes).

What, titanium was around BEFORE the epic gem patch... so... why are we expecting a different ore? (I read somewhere else that there was speculation of a second kind of ore...)

It'd be silly. Honestly, I'd be surprised if we see it this soon in the xpac, and not until a later tier (aka, not this next one (t12), but the one after that (t13), or even, the one after that (t14) if this is going to be a 4-tier xpac like WOTLK was with 7/8/9/10).

I dunno, we didn't expect to see this dumb new flex raid lockout system with same tiers of gear for all non heroic or heroic bosses... so they may cut this down to 3 tiers so they can push out the next xpac and make more cash off of the rabid folks!

So honestly, we could be sitting on this stuff for another... year before we see epic gems.
