under 80g/stack still gets some hits but not too many. I doubt that Epic gems will come from that, but just in case I'm wrong...

I'm now up to 2 gtabs full of Pyrite, and that's just from buying at Ultra low prices when I catch them (80-100g) . Currently prices are north of 170g. If epics are well and truely not coming in 4.2, I'll probably start bleeding off the Pyrite just because I'd expect it's market price to fall quite a bit

Random Maths - numbers completely made up

[Random figure #1] Epic gem average price will be 200g (with crap ones less and good ones i.e. red dps more)

[Random figure #2]Takes average 4 prospects to proc an epic

So 4 prospects = 1 stack therefore so u should be buying Pyrite at stack prices < what you 'guess' a cut epic gem will be so per RF#1 I'd be looking to pay max 200g/stack

Not sure how much value there is in guessing at random numbers like this but thought it would be interesting to see other's thinking about the numbers ...

i have two guild tab full of pyrite but i am still thinking every day that i should get rid of it. I'ts too easy, i really dont think blizzard will do something to easy for us.

They will bing a new ore, **truegold ore** wich will give the epic gem. Anyway i wont stack more than my 2 guild tab.

A lot of people are arguing over weather or not Blizzard will use Pyrite ore, and like the poster above, they think that's too "easy" or too obvious. However this is exactly how it worked in WotLK. It worked out really well in LK and judging by how successful it was in LK, I think they will quite literally copy/paste the same process into Pyrite Ore. I say this because blizzard is fond of ideas that worked well and they are lazy. With that said, here are the numbers from LK, and most likely what we can expect.

4515 ore = 903 prospects
609 powder = 67.4%
1361 uncommon = 150.7%
225 rare = 24.9%
253 epic = 28%

Since every Volatile is highly used except Earth, we could quite possibly see Volatile Earth's become our new "Titanium Powder" or possibly it will be replaced by a powder.

You can also make good estimates of how much you stand to gain from your current stock pile.

For the worst case scenario and epics don't come from Pyrite, we'll need to examine exit strats for dumping the ore. At this point in time, I've even grown a tiny bit scared and I've been selling the ore when the prices are up. Making the assumption that 4.3 or 4.4 that will have epic gems is at least 5+ months away, there's quite honestly no reason to be stock piling at this point. Botters have been flooding my servers Pyrite Ore market and I've only been buying it to flip it later in the week when prices go back up. As others worry that Elementium is flooding their markets so fast it's practically impossible to process it at that pace, I too think Pyrite will continue to flood and continue to bottom out in price.

As far as strategies go, perhaps the simplest is just buy low sell normal/high. Something to keep in mind is that depending on your servers Volatile Earth prices, Pyrite Ore has a floor price that you should be looking for just like Elementium and Obsidium.

Worst case scenario, this is what I'm looking at:
Pyrite Ore x20 price: 90g avg. from bots, as high as 150g from players

4 uncommon gems: 36g vendor
8 volatile earth: 64g
1-2 rare gems: 6g vendor (90g+ for Rubies)
=
110ish gold is my current floor price if I shuffle it. Obviously your floor price could be much higher/lower depending on how you want to shuffle it and those market prices.

Lastly, there will become a point when/if Blizzard confirms this will be the source of Epic gems a few months down the line. Once this happens, expect Pyrite ore to soar in price and scarcity. If you've got a massive stockpile, you could quite easily offload a big chunk of it at possibly more than double what you paid for it. This is yet one more "glyphmas" that you can look forward to where you stand to gain a lot of gold for simply having foresight to grab some extra Pyrite for this purpose only.

Quite honestly there are only 4 ways they can do Epic gems.
1) Pyrite Ore

2) Trash drops from that raid tier like Black Temple.

3) A new ore is introduced, which has never been done. Keep in mind this is the third expansion in a row that only had 3 different ores. Also if they were to do this, they would have to introduce an entirely new zone that would have it. While we have confirmed we're getting a new daily quest hub in Firelands, I can't imagine they would force us to old content to farm it, and the amount of griefing and competition would be enormous.

4) Last option is Epic gems are exclusively bought with Justice Points. They've already shown us they want items easily available via JPs, as it continues to give us outlets to spend them on.

I personally think epic gems will come from Pyrite and JPs in the same patch.

I have my snatch at 160g/stack, and haven't seen anything significant in weeks. I'm guessing someone out there is snatching higher than me. Oh well, already got almost a tab full of the stuff.

You completely missed transmuting them with alchemy.

Also to all the other posters that really think Pyrite is going to be the source of epic gems, I think you're giving Blizzard too much credit. Sure it worked really well to make Titanium Ore the place where you got epic gems initially, but I don't honestly believe they will do it this time around because people are already planning on manipulating the market. Blizzard knows this, and they don't like people manipulating markets. They will more than likely come up with something that none of us have thought of. This is why I don't speculate on new things, I only speculate on the older things that people will have more use for as time goes on.
