So in preparing for 4.0.1, I stocked up on a few of the patterns sold in Aszhara that would not be available post-patch. I didn't get many, as there was some competition on the night I was buying them, but between PVPing in a hut the size of my office cube, and checking vendors who restocked every 30 minutes it seems, I was able to get a few of each:

Pattern: Blue Dragonscale Breastplate
Pattern: Chimeric Gloves
Schematic: Deepdive Helmet

How should I best move them?

Since 4.0.1 released, I've had mine up on the AH (one of each, of course) for starting B/O of 10k gold, and have slowly lowered them down to around 2500g right now. Deposit is just about nothing compared to the markup. However, none have sold. I expect anyone to know they are rare to have camped them (even though Wowhead had no prior information about the vendors being removed, so the majority of the population didn't know, I'd surmise). I now have competition out of nowhere, listing at 500g each! This just irks me, as he blatantly undercut me by thousands, lowering any potential price for them substantially, and listing multiples at a time. Perhaps he was watching my auctions for a month and saw I wasn't selling any, but either way, I need a new way to move them. The AH, at least now, is a no-go.

How do I best appeal to collectors in this game? Here's what I plan on doing:

1) Generating interest on my realm board at the main forums. I won't post prices, and may get a few people to buy out my competition at first, but removing supply will only increase moving price.
2) /Trade spamming. This will be even harder, as most people would check the AH on items such as this and adjust their offers accordingly. I'd rather not let these go for that low, if I can help it.
3) /who the high rollers on my server's AH and offering to sell to them. They might be interested in the rarity, but there's best chance that if they are interested in rare patterns, they'll have a stock of their own.

Am I just out of my mind for hoping for more than 1k gold for these patterns? Should I just ride it out and hope they aren't included back into the game at all in the future? Should I even buy out my competitor and hope what he lists is all he has?

If there's anyplace to ask experts in this area, it's here. Thanks in advance, guys.

The helm is the only thing that's decent. Push that

Cataclysm has been out for about 10 days now.

Which means your now-rare patterns have only been out-of-print for 10 days.

Prior to that, anyone that wanted them, had 6 years to head over to buy them themselves.

Now I'm not saying that there aren't people who will want them and eventually be willing to pay bigger bucks for them. But almost all of them have been a little distracted with....oh.....

Thousands of new quests,
hundreds of new trainer patterns,
Tens of renovated areas
Six new blue gem names
...
Five mo-ore levels
...
Fore-shadowing
Free Quest Greens
Two new races
And a Black Dragon in a pear tree (Alternative ending: And a new profession: Archeology)

You might wanna set those patterns aside for a week or two and give them time to rise in value.

I'd go further than that. I'd wait a few months. These are items that were rarely bought when available.

When you sell them, people won't know that they're available. You'll have to advertise in trade chat.

There's no reason to keep them for sale 7 days a week. When you sell them, put them up for 48 hrs and mention it in trade chat every few minutes when convenient. Then wait a few days and try again.

Don't expect them to sell quickly, but you'll make a nice bit of cash when they finally do.

I wouldn't try to sell these at all until things settle down a bit in a couple of months. But I'd certainly buy out that moron listing them for 500g each.

I've got a few cooking recipes that aren't available in-game right now. On the chance they don't add in a vendor for them, I'm holding on to them. I'm sure Thistle Tea didn't sell well for a few weeks after it was removed, and now look at it! Bide your time, IMO.

So I don't see the patterns up for 500g each anymore. Not sure if they were bought (doubt it, I could use BeanCounter to figure out I think but I'm not sure how to do that) but they aren't relisted.

I've got a macro that advertises rare and out-of-print patterns, and I'll hit it in trade once or twice each session. So far, one person asking for links (/m doesn't link items) but no go. Asking 5kg for each.

Managed to get the Plans: Helm of the Great Chief for 50g yesterday. Three out of the four mobs that drop that are no longer in the game, that is if Nefarion is still in BWL, not so sure about that one. Thank goodness for snatch lists :D

I used to make good money selling "Pattern: Herbalist's Gloves" (30g-60g a piece) before the Shattering.

About 2 weeks before Cata I sat a bank toon in front of the vendor in Ashenvale and snagged about 30 or so. Been selling them at 150g+ for the last few days now. I've been the only seller. I'm thinking about holding onto the rest for a while and seeing if that price doesn't become more valuable in the next few months (at least until they put it back in the game).
