What's needed for this:
Shift key
Temporary disabling of autostacker addons

What you're going to do:
1) Figure out how many stacks of an item you want.
2) Farm up as many units of that item as stacks.
3) Using shift+click, split that stack into singles.
4) Make X number of single stacks.

How this works:
Each single unit of the stackable item basically reserves that bag slot. As you continue your farming session, the system will max out one stack and then start adding to the next incomplete stack. This is especially helpful in reserving space when farming mobs that drop gray trash. If your bags are otherwise full, you will still suck in the stackable item. The only time this won't happen is if the amount of the stack on the mob would cause you to divert to a new stack without finishing the old one.

This is also nice for those that don't use addons for sorting. The items will sit where you leave them, so you can know if you've reached a certain farming goal without having to search around your bags. Open, check how many of the stacks are full and get back to work.

That is a VERY nice tip thx, hate it when I'm on a roll and then suddenly have to start sorting out trash to dump due to full bags.

I don't understand why people use the default Blizzard style bags when there's 32948293043290 bag addons like tbag-shefki that will automatically sort and stack everything for you?

I'm going to guess performance or configuration issues. There are those that take great pride in using the vanilla interface and not having to use "crutches". I'm in the process of reinstalling and reconfiguring everything on WoW since it's now a fresh install and I don't have the old files to restore it with. It's a PITA I'd like to avoid in the future, so there'll be yet another tutorial coming around the bend after I get things sorted out.

I personally prefer the standard bag ui since i have ocd and sort everything out of my back pack into where its supposed to go... even all greys have a place in my second bag for easy access to sell O.o

I can understand it to some degree. But at the same time, would you rather walk to work or drive your car? Either way you get there but one just makes a lot more sense to me in terms of overall efficiency.

And there's mods that sell all your greys automatically too :p

Even if you are ocd and prefer to keep things that organized there are numerous bag mods that let you color the frames of the bags so that you can still (to a lesser extent) keep things seperated.

Addressing the original post...it's nice to see there's something I've been doing that has already been suggested, lets me know I'm at least on my way.

I do the stack reserving such as this when I'm farming fish feast mats as I always seem to end up reach my 2-4 stacks of salmon before anything else. :P
