I have been doing some research but I still trying to figure out which would be more worth my time and mats. Either making shadowspirit diamonds or making inferno rubies with my alchemist. I have been buying up all the elementium ore and obsidium ore on my server if it is at the right price of coarse. I then prospect all the ore with my JC and send the carnelians off to my alchemist to be transmuted into inferno rubies. I have been using the other left over lower level gems that come out of the prospecting to make rings with my JC and then I send those off to my enchanter to disenchant. So basically I am mostly selling inferno rubies, greater celestial essence, heavenly shards and hypnotic dust. However would I be better off making and selling shadowspirit diamonds instead?

Thanks for any help I recieve

Fhil

Shadowspirit diamonds don't sell as well on my server, so based on that I would suggest inferno rubies ;)
But my server isn't yours ...

there is a obsidium/elementium shuffle spreadsheet floating around on the consortium
forums that will give you the basic answer to that question.

You can either manually input the information, or they give instructions on how to
set it up to download automatically. It generates a very simple report to read and
is based on your server information.

or just do a google search for elementium shuffle spreadsheet and you should be able to find
a copy of it.

thats the long answer.

The short answer is that if you have access to your own enchanter to DE items, and can transmutethen unless your inferno ruby sales are in the junkpile (100g or less) then inferno rubies, de'ing crafted jewelry and transmuting cardinal rubies is going to probably net you the most money.

Unfortunately it seems to be server dependent. On my server going the way of the metagem is way more profitable than the infernal ruby, in fact, on my server, if you threw everything except the metagems away, you'd still make a big profit.

Downside: They do take a little longer to sell than the inferno's.

Every tip that I've offered always should come with a caveat of "your milage may vary"
because everything is server dependent.

Shandris is the server I do most of my wowing on and it comes off as the backwater
swaps of the raiding world. We have one or two strong raiding group and the rest are
subpar if you look at the stats and progression.

Gear turnaround is what drives the market for both rubies and shadowspirits. You get 6-8
slots on a full set of armor (not counting addons from blacksmithing) where you get 1
with the shadowspirit diamonds inserted in the helm. Helms tend to be the most difficult to upgrade raid wise.

It's one of the reasons I like the spreadsheets, that way I can do a quick generation of pure data to see where I'm at marketwise. Timed return on investment is definitely effective, I don't like to have to relist items time after time unless it's a big ticket item (mechano-hog) for instance. Inferno rubies is a get in and get out with maybe 2 to 3 rotations of needing to relist
(it's insanely competitive).

Another thing I forgot to mention... it depends on your volume. If you're going huge amounts of volume, you're going to have a hard time selling all your metagems so in that case, a balance might be your best option. If you're doing it in smaller volumes, then go for the highest profit option. For me, it'd be the metagems.

Pull out your trusty calculator to see what the numbers tell you on your server.

Bold / Brill/ Delicate all sell above 180g all day long on my server...

Once in a blue moon I can sell a cut Shadowspirit gem.
I can sell Shadowspirits uncut at 200g each.

But lately I have been doing very well with my enchanter so I stop xmuting shadowspirit and all my green, yellow => lesser Cellistial dust (sp?) => Mighty Chest sells all day everyday.

When everyone else is zigging, sometimes its best to zag.

There are far more slots to fill with red gems than metagems, so common sense (v1.0) would indicate that you'd be able to sell more red gems than shadowspirits.

But...

Common Sense v2.0 would also indicate that every other JC on your server is thinking this way and burning up all their carneliens by converting them to Inferno Rubies. And probably keeping the cut Inferno prices depressed in the process.

As mentioned previously, if you're dealing with small amounts of ore, stick with whichever transmute is more profitable on your server/faction. However, if you're dealing in larger amounts of stock, diversification is important.

On my server, the competition seems to be loading all their eggs into the one Inferno Ruby basket, resulting in cut Shadowspirits now moving in the 400-500 range. I sold about 400 of them this week.
