Basically, I think something has hapepned to our ore farmers. We use to have about 5-6 pages worth of elemetnium ore...as of mid last week. This week, or last 10 days we've barely hit 2. Now, i am on enough to check the AH almost hourly. And i've not a huge surplus of ore. Anyone else notice this? Is it only my server/faction. What i am a suspecting is that Blizz wiped out a couple of farming operations on our server. The other possibility is that someone is buying up all the ore (not oustide the realm of possibility to be honest...we have a very sluggish economy and a few top dogs).

ANyone else notice this? Is it just me?

There have been banwaves recently, so supplies may be drying up (in which case you'll have to farm it yourself).
It's also possible that prices on your server went so low, it was no longer interesting to farm ores to sell on the AH.
(In which case you need to farm it yourself AND put them on the AH at an elevated price)

well basically i am a JC, and if this continues then it could seriously impact my gold making. However, i should have enough supply to last another 7-10 days. I've been able to get a bit here and there...its just mind bending how little is on there.

This is why we almost always suggest to diversify. If you put all your eggs into one basket and someone ruins that basket, you're left without an income.

Not even sure how that's relevant to my original post. And before you respond...I am diversified well enough.

Kind of implies that you're not diversified enough.

If you're not able to get the raw mats for an area, you either need to get creative on how to get more mats (sometimes hard if there is very little - but there are ways) or concentrate on other ways to make gold.

Quite often when there is a shortage, those that benefit are the players who stockpiled enough for a rainy day or who buy directly through farmers.

Since I gold capped I have been buying all cata ore below 50g a stack on my server, mostly because I finally stopped being lazy and leveled a blacksmith. The effect its having is basically what I had expected. Gems and chanting mats going up while the number of competitors goes down. Granted this wont last long, but it created some life in a very slow market. Logged in today and instead of the lack of ore I have created and normally see there are 6 pages worth ranging from the 50 I had set it at the night before down to 32 from undercutting.

Its actually kind of wierd the way farmed mats work. Normally you want I price for your auctions to go up so you buy all the auctions out and reset the market thereby making the price higher. Ore and herbs you clean ah out and it motivates people and they fall over over each other trying to keep the supply up and end up crashing the price for you. Which really works out for the best because when it comes to ore I need volume and volume and volume.

This sounds similar to how my server was within the couple of months before epic gems were released in WoTLK (2 expansions ago) it just got too hard for a lot of the competition. Of course back then there were less raiders so it might work better.

Most of the competition had dropped out of the market. Back then, I really didn't have a lot of gold but I did have enough capital to control a market as best I could. I attacked both the supply lines and feverishly undercut the competition to encourage them to find another market. I think I made about 150k in a couple of weeks doing this... (and this was when 150k was a lot of gold).

Ya as it stands gems and chanting mats are the highest they have been since 4.2 launched. If the amount of farmers gets out of hand I'll just stop buying and within 2 weeks people will quit farming again. For some reason my server rarely has any gold farmers so unless I stimulate the market a persons lucky to find a full page of ore up at any time. So really in answer to the o.p. you can easily say that while a person can't exactley control a market, they can have a huge impact.

yep the bots are gone...I used to buy volatile life for 2g each in bulk. I used to get pyrite ore every day for 3g each.
Now volatile life is 8g each minimum.
Even Volatile Water is gone over 15g each.

But the bots will be back, and the people who swoop in and buy them out , store up stuff in their own private guild banks will do very well.
