While it used to be a case of the sky being the limit, in regards to wow gold collecting, Blizz changed all that when they raised the character goldcap to 999,999g99s99c (1 million less a copper). Because at the same time they did this, they quietly instituted the same cap on Guildbanks (annoying Zamboni to no end.)
BTW when the change went through, guildbanks that had more than the limit still showed the greater amount. At this stage though, its probably wise to remove any excess, in the event that you're hacked, as they probably wouldn't be able to restore stolem gold above the limit.
So a player with a full roster of characters, each with thier own guildbank, is limited to no more than 20 x 1 million less 20 copper per account.
So while the sky is still the limit, a Star Trek quote sums up our limitations now... "The world is hollow, and I have touched the sky."
