Blizz just announced they're developing a 'Guild Transfer' service, where you can transfer a guild to another server and keep everything in-tact -- INCLUDING THE GUILD BANK! This will be an excellent way to move your massive stockpiles and olympic-size swimming pools full of gold coins to another server with very little stress. No details on pricing yet, but I imagine it could be close to the $25 mark (similar to their other transfer services).

Charging for a guild name change. My opinion: A service that ~should~ be free (on a limited basis). And it ~should~ cost game-gold, not cash.

Charging to move a guildbank. I see the logic behind it. The guild ranking system grants a real sweat-equity value to them now.

The only reason I see them looking to introduce the service would be because they've seen a drastic drop in the number of individual player-transfer requests, probably because fewer players are quick to abandon their guild rankings at the drop of a hat anymore.

The question remains, will it allow you to transfer up to Gold Cap? Will larger banks (# of tabs) cost more to move than smaller ones? Will hackers change their methods and spend less time draining a guildbank and instead opt to move it before gutting it?

As brought up in that thread, I too envision many occurances of a disgruntled GM pulling up stakes and unloading the guild on a new server for personal profit. But that really doesn't change things much. A GM has always had the option of either shutting down tab access and/or booting everyone from a guild at the drop of a hat.

If blizzard doesn't release restrictions on guild movements at patch, they quickly will when they realize how much someone can screw with economies if they are willing to burn some cash.

But I got to admit that is interesting. Unfortunately I'm on a high pop server so if I did a mass arbitrage like this it would probably be in reverse, bring a whole bunch of cheap goods to a backwards server and sell for high, and bring the gold back.

Last night I realized that this would be a wow-metaphor to the opening of the Panama Canal. Trade between servers (and oceans) existed before, but this opens it up to large supertankers in a cost-efficient manner.

Lately I've been feeling a certain...malaise. When you're rich and you've already bought all the mounts, pets, patterns and primo BoE gear, the ah starts to get a little boring. But this...this has possibilities. Taking a ship laden with goods and/or gold to a far-off , undiscovered land to trade with the backward natives. Be sure to pack the shiney beads and citrus fruit.

I think it would be funny if Zam and I both found ourselves on the same server each with 1,050,000 burning a hole in our respective pockets for cheap goods. (We all agree that if anyone is gonna exploit this, Zam's the man, right? He's probably making an army of level 1 spies on every US Server as I type this.)

I'll make you a deal Zam. Either we can both do the heavy research and show up on the same server, or you can just tell me the name of the one with the second-most-screwed-up, bargain-basement economy and avoid me out-barking you in /2.

It just occurred to me that he might be sending out a whole fleet. Hmmmmm....

For the amount of money you would spend transferring a guild, you could just buy a lot of gold. Based on what I've seen spammed in trade, you could probably buy the best part of 100k gold for the amount it would cost to transfer and back again.

For me, the gold making has always been about trying to make as much gold as possible without any real life expense, or I might as well have just bought the gold. Definitely an interesting subject though, would be very interested to see results from such an experiment.

I see a big market for gold sellers moving goods and gold about here, more than us lowly goblins tbh. Blizzard must be thinking about this, as it really could be the moment that all realm economies start to draw level with each other.

I am extremely intrigued. Not that I can hope to compete with any big dogs or even small dogs for that matter but a buddy of mine has been hounding me for a long time to switch servers and factions. Will a server and factions switch in one shot be a possibility. If so I guess I need to buy a lot more white kitten carriers.
