Folks,

There was a good post on woweconomics today about The Most Profitable Gems, Enchants and Glyphs.

After reading the post I took the armourydatamine information about the top 3 Gems used by each class build and created a most used gem spreadsheet.

It can be found here:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key= ... utput=html

The results of which are:
1 Runed Scarlet Ruby 2582.00%
2 Bold Scarlet Ruby 981.00%
3 Solid Sky Sapphire 955.00%
4 Delicate Scarlet Ruby 687.00%
5 Balanced Twilight Opal 674.00%
6 Rigid Autumn’s Glow 552.00%
7 Bright Scarlet Ruby 475.00%
8 Potent Monarch Topaz 229.00%
9 Sparkling Sky Sapphire 176.00%
10 Enduring Forest Emerald 151.00%
11 Brilliant Autumn’s Glow 149.00%
12 Purified Twilight Opal 137.00%
13 Smooth Autumn’s Glow 129.00%
14 Luminous Monarch Topaz 118.00%
15 Austere Earthsiege Diamond 96.00%
16 Glowing Twilight Opal 87.00%
17 Veiled Monarch Topaz 77.00%
18 Royal Twilight Opal 75.00%
19 Thick Autumn’s Glow 74.00%
20 Steady Forest Emerald 55.00%
21 Sovereign Twilight Opal 50.00%
22 Durable Monarch Topaz 44.00%

It is important to stress that these are the most USED gems, not the most profitable.

Happy Prospecting :D

Hmm Chaotic Skyflare Diamond, Relentless Earthsiege Diamond and Ember Skyflare Diamond don't rate a mention. I would have thought that being tailored to dps classes they would have been more popular than a tanking type meta the 'Austere earthsiege diamond'. Interesting.

Really fantastic data summary. Very helpful. Thanks!

Now if only someone would do the same with the glyphs and enchants...

Twinkletoes, I think that's an invitation for you to write a quick guide on how to get that info out of the datamining site. It'll save you from redoing all that work and lets the readers of this thread know how to do it themselves to make sure they can keep on top of changes after a patch.

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll buy your beer & bait forever... or something like that.

Its fairly simple, if a little time consuming.

Redirect your browser to http://armorydatamine.wordpress.com/.
In the top right corner you will see the Pages link with the first one being the Death Knight. In that list there is the Death Knight Enchants, Level 80 and the Death Knight Glyphs, Level 80.
Lets take the Glyphs as an example.
I copied the top 3 glyphs from each build into a spreadsheet so that I have a list of 9 Glyphs with their name – type – popularity.
I then added to this list for each class (yes that’s a fair few windows open and a bit of alt-tabbing).
Using Ms Excel I then sorted the list by name which groups all the same ones together.
Its then a simple adding up of the percentages for each glyph in the list.
Copy and paste the values (make sure you paste values so you don’t copy over the formulas) of that into a new window...delete the dupes and sort your results by the % column.

LOL you stole the idea out of my head! I read the woweconomics post too, went to the armory data mining site, and was just thinking that I should try and figure out which gem sold the best =p

However, the problem with the method that you outlined is that it assumes that there is an even number of each class (exactly, say, 10% DK's 10% shammies 10% pallys etc) instead of what is true- an uneven number of each class with DK's in the lead by far.

I think that Solid Sky Sapphire should be higher up on your list. It has, in my experience, been the best-selling gem overall.

Very nice list, there is one or two gems in the top 10 I don't cut regularly so I might give those more attention this week and see!

Regards
Glinda

I know that I am bringing an old thread back up but do you folks think that this is a fairly accurate list still?
Trying to start my JC toon and trying to get the most bang for my buck with recipies.....obviously it depends on the server but what do you think of the list.
