I'm finding that classic wow enchants are selling particularly well at the moment and my pre-Cata collection of large brilliant shards is close to running out.

These used to be cheap as chips with plenty of players farming Strat for the mount and the huge rush of last minute 'Insane in the Membrane' hopefuls farming Dire Maul but now things seem Dire indeed. Strat is now a lower level instance that can't be farmed for shards and presumably at this stage of Cata there are less players farming instances where Large Brilliant Shards can be found.

Speculation aside... these things are bloody expensive on the AH on my realm and have been for some time. Other times they simply aren't available. That may be one of the reasons why I've enjoyed a monopoly on some rare classic enchants and this has been very lucrative for me... BUT... alas my supply is dwindling and I'm now turning to you, fellow goblins, to ask for any sneaky strats for obtaining cheap shards en masse.

P.S. I'm reluctant to spend time farming instances myself, unless I can be persuaded that I can make a lot of gold at the same time. I just want to keep my enchanting business going on the side if I can, without having to farm the mats myself.

If you cannot buy them and don't want to farm them... you're left with one other options that comes to mind....

Find yourself a slave.

You could always look at cloning yourself, but that isn't an option to most people ;)

I like to make and DE the Wizardweave Turbans when the prices are right. While the LBS have a low chance of appearing from DE, the dust and essence are usually also in demand and sell really well. On my server, LBS sell for ~50-60g, dust for 6g and essence for 30g, and I can make the turbans for 8g. Its a pretty sweet profit!

If you go down this path and would like to sell the shards don't feel like you have to undercut to make a sale. I usually put mine up at the highest price and they're gone the next day. Supply is very limited (as you know!).

Genius! That is just the kind of tip I was hoping for. By chance I have stacks of bolts of runecloth leftover from my Insane grind so that would be a great way to dispose of it and hopefully get some large brilliant shards at the same time.

On my realm:
Wizardweave Turban
6x Bolt of Runecloth (made with 24x Runecloth) = 24g
4x Dream Dust = 8g
1x Star Ruby = 3g
(plus thread)
Total = 35g crafting cost.

And Large Brilliant Shards? They go for ~22g. If there is a supply, it is much more worth our time to simply buy them straight and hope to sell the enchants that result. :)

Looks like the turbans are not the best route on your server Gaiwyn. While the shards don't sell for much, what is the dust and essence like? Their profit might outweigh the difference when you DE into a shard.

There are heaps of shards available, so DEing to get them isn't a very good way to do things. Mind you, Illusion Dust is pretty nice (5 or 6g each) and GEE is around 25g. Still, with the amount of people vying to sell every kind of enchanting reagent, it often pays to choose your enchants carefully and just buy the mats when posters force each other down into the lower numbers - such as with shards, which are as low as 15g today. :)

Actually guys, the link Mageshadow posted on the Blog (the one to the Consortium forums) has an item about craftables that disenchant into these.
For some reason you can't start at these in wowhead and find the craftables that disenchant into them (thottbot used to have this, I loved it bigtime :( )
Just remember to put it all in a spreadsheet to see where (and if) it's profitable to do. ;)

Yes you can...

Large Brilliant Shard
The first tab is called "Disenchanted from". Then it's just a matter of running a filter. Here, let me play around a bit...

*Working...*

*Compiling...*

What craftables disenchant into LBS?
Greens have about a 5% chance; blues have about a 100% chance. As always, armour has a greater chance of turning into Illusion Dust and weapons have a greater chance of turning into GEE.

As for drops, just head to UBRS, LBRS or the second half of BRD for boss drops to DE - if so inclined. ;)

Just remember how amazing Wowhead actually is. The filter system works wonders. ;)

I actually have been crafting and DEing the Ring of Natural Fire for a while now. snatching up Living Essence and Flame Spessarite, keeping Essence of Fire from MC runs, i can make 20-25 LBS each week for ~8g a piece.
