Hello everyone.

I'm new on this site, so go easy on me!

Recently I've picked up info about Alchemy being the big gold maker and it makes perfect sense! I am very much into raiding and I buy 3-4 of these flasks from the auction house - daily!

So I decided to go into the flask business. I started out buying materials from the auction house and crafting a sample batch of 40 flasks. They sold almost immediately and I calculated the proc rate from elixir mastery to be at around 20%.

Using this information I created a spreadsheet to calculate my potential profit and started looking for a farmer.

I am now slowly building my empire without having encountered the "big cheese" on this market, although should a price war break out I have 20,000g in liquids to spend on the fight, thanks to you! (Much love <3)

I thought I'd share my spreadsheet with you. It's good to get you started in this business. I realize that many people prefer using Auctioneer, LilSparky's Workshop and whatnot, but I've found it hard to rely too much on the data stored in those addons.

Just saw it on the front page of the blog. Really nice spreadsheet, my only suggestion would be to include the auction house cut in your profit calculation.

You've currently got

Profit per flask = AH price - cost

but I think it would be more accurate as

Profit per flask = (AH price * 0.95) - cost

I agree, fantastic spreadsheet. Unfortunately for me, looks like at my server's current prices, I'd lose money making either. At least I had an easy way to find out :)

Nice job, thank you. The spreadsheet helped me see that I would not make a profit on the endless rage and would only make a 2 gold profit, not including ah fee's on the Frost Wrym.

Thank you again for doing this work.

I know this is going to be server specific, but how many flasks do people sell per day? What is the volume that one could expect to have? Would you sell 10 per day or 100 per day?

Thanks for putting this together!

Really dumb question here.....how do you use the spreadsheet once downloaded?

It downloads a .zip file that once extracted contains several folders primarily containing .xml files.

Opening any of them just launches my web browser and displays text like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
- <Types xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/package/2006/content-types">
<Default Extension="bin" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.printerSettings" />
<Override PartName="/xl/theme/theme1.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.theme+xml" />
<Override PartName="/xl/styles.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.styles+xml" />
<Override PartName="/xl/charts/chart2.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.drawingml.chart+xml" />
<Default Extension="rels" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-package.relationships+xml" />
<Default Extension="xml" ContentType="application/xml" />
<Override PartName="/xl/workbook.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet.main+xml" />
<Override PartName="/xl/charts/chart1.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.drawingml.chart+xml" />
<Override PartName="/xl/drawings/drawing2.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.drawing+xml" />

<Override PartName="/xl/worksheets/sheet2.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.worksheet+xml" />
<Override PartName="/xl/drawings/drawing1.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.drawing+xml" />
<Override PartName="/xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.worksheet+xml" />
<Override PartName="/xl/calcChain.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.calcChain+xml" />
<Override PartName="/xl/sharedStrings.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sharedStrings+xml" />
<Override PartName="/docProps/core.xml" ContentType="application/vnd.openxmlformats-package.core-properties+xml" />
</Types>

Please, what am I missing here?

It probably is a macro-compressed sheet. Try renaming it directly from .zip to .xls (or .xlsm)

Thanks for the idea. I'm afraid it didn't work though. :-(
