Perhaps this publication is going to irritate with its appeal, viz. - the demand for answers in relation to the subject. In other words I myself am not entirely familiar with the different moyens of gold making, and for this matter I can be of no help to those of you who now read the thread led by their curiosity of acquiring vital information about such methods of gold making, and then again misled by the title I chose. Trust me when I say that if I'd known how to better remove any such doubt - i.e. that I'm going to give you a list of helpful tips of how to make gold w/o owning Cataclysm - I'd have done so.

Talking about me, I've come back to online gaming, particularly to World of Warcraft just recently after having a long brake. Upon leaving I had over 25k gold splited between my characters in Kazzak. Now, for reasons that I'm not all that interested investigating I'm left with little less than 50g. At my disposal I have a Druid and Priest with maxed out Alchemy/Inscripton Enchanting/Tailoring (450 points each according to WotLK standard.).

I acquired additional game time and have little less than 47 game days to play. However, I wonder if I'll be able to pull off some gold before I saved up enough money to buy Cataclysm.

If you cannot advise me on what to do to make gold, I believe my time will be better spend leveling up an alt. By picking up the loot and completing a handful of quest I should be able to acquire just enough gold to sustain my first days in Cataclysm.

But I'm really interested in setting up my own industry. In other ways: being a pain in the ass for every sworn AH player in Kazzak.

You have WOTLK, you can make boatloads of gold:
Old world Ores and Herbs sell well (old world flying)
Outland Ores and Herbs sell well (do get epic flying)
Northrend Ores and Herbs sell well, even Saronite is doing better now that bots can do the Cataclysm zones (do get cold world flying)

Alternatively... you could... you know.... buy Cataclysm?

You didn't explain why you don't buy cataclysm right now and make gold by questing + leveling and selling Cata dez mat and so on...

Without cata you can't fly in Azeroth, so best zone for farming are bc and lk.

Otherwise level a DK + Herb/Mining, use herbs for your glyphs or sell raw herbs.
Sell the ores to auction house.

Otherwise, chain kill mobs at bc donjons, it gives around 100 gold per run, 600 gold per hour + make bags that sell for 10-20 gold/u.

You can also do Argent tournament dailies and every 3-4 days sell a pet for 2-4k.

Why don't you buy Cataclysm You can pre-download it all by setting "CT" instead of "LK" in your configfile
The launcher will then download it all as long as you don't log in. When you do log in, the CT will be replaced by LK again
After you upgrade the account online, you'll be able to play immediatly (no need to insert a disk or anything)

I'm financially strangled right now. Nevertheless I do move on with my life - university, studying, reading for pleasure. From time to time, however I also want to let my mind float undisturbed. The video game helps me with that. I'm saving money, and yes I'm looking for a job.

The reason for my inquiry was that I wanted to make cash for Cataclysm. Moreover it sort of bugged me whether one could or could not - not only because I'm limited within its borders - make money out of "old" game content without having to use latest expansion.

Well then... Yes you can. By playing the auction house you can do that without buying any expansions.

Farm motes of air, water, earth, fire, mana > primals > xmute into primal might
Farm adam and fel ore.
Same with WoTLK.

You are missing out ...there is millions of gold in cata to be made.
