I used to lurk here on these forums for awhile but after I read everything and noticed that nobody posts here anymore or never really did all that much in the past I thought I give posting a try because just maybe the new patch attracted more AH farmers.

I don't know if it's just my server or what, but often times, the materials to make an item usually cost more then the item itself so that kinda shuts down all operations of buying mats from the AH and selling the crafted at a price higher than what it costed to make it. It may have changed, and there may be some things that sell for more than the cost of the mats I'll look into that later but right now I just want to start off on something that is less risky for me.

Seeing how I am a miner/Jewelcrafter (and have two nice enchanter friends) I'd thought I start with that. Most gems though, in their raw form, don't cost much less than the cut ones, the cata gems that is, wrath gems go for much more than their uncut versions but those don't move off the shelves quick enough to invest that much time into anyway so I'm stuck with cata gems for now. The vicious amulets and rings are slow to move off the shelf so I only post them when I feel lucky... :D Plus there is a lot of competition in the Jewel market in general in my server, and every once in a while, we get people that just post all the gems they own at one time for some reason, drives down the prices as well. (This happens with truegold as well but not as often) I have an alchemist as well but I tried selling my flasks only to be met by this guy that keeps posting his volume. When someone undercuts him he just posts more and leaves the others he posted before there etc etc. So I quit on alchemy really fast. (Plus I think there is more competition with flasks) I can make due with selling truegold every day with my daily cooldown, and now that the gem prices have doubled here on my server I actually started to try and sell some of my personal gem stash. (My inferno rubies only so far)

Am I just too much of a pansy or what? I know some other gems go for a lot, just not nearly as much as the inferno rubys, I just don't see it worth while to wait for my other gems to sell when they only go for at most 200g if not less. I guess volume is the key but like I said the raw gems don't cost much less than the cut ones in my server. Any ideas? And what about the competition, so far so good with inferno rubies but I tend to leave when a little of it comes my way... :(

What's the math like on your server for prospecting, xmuting and cutting gems to sell?

Right now Elementium ore is going for 100g a stack. The price of inferno rubies is about 450-500g, orange gems I can probably get 250g each, yellows and blues is a joke, greens not really worth it but doable don't know exact price on those. Purples I are about double the price of greens, I guess I can say greens are about 50g and so that would make purples 100g give or take 50. If I prospect 600 elementium ore I can usually get about 5 of each rare gem, and about 20 of each small gem. 600 elementium ore is 30 stacks * 100g is 3000g. I don't know how much herbs cost yet but if I start to do that I will at first farm the herbs cause that doesn't really take that long, it's the 600 ore that's a pain.

xmutes I think go for 100g. Truegold swings from 600g to 800 gold everyday and the earliar you can sell it after the cooldown the better.

well... there is an actual substantial difference between the prices of the raw green and yellow gems and the cut versions of those but in order to make any money off of that I would have to sell sell sell and I don't know how fast those move off the shelves yet I have just been focusing on inferno rubies.

And the shadowspirit diamonds?

From the sound of it, there is a very profitable situation on your server. Milk it. Milk it until the rock has no more blood to squeeze from it.

Actually after more investigation there are some purple and orange gems that go for 400+ gold as well but I don't know if that is a steady price will have to watche them for a bit. The price of elementium ore went up though, but right now I am just gathering data and just mining myself cause I have the time and will probably continue to do so in the future even if I do decide to buy from the AH at one point.

Well, as far as I can tell, in order to sell a high number of gems everyday as a Jewelcrafter you have to camp the AH because at certain times of the day throughout the day other Jewelcrafters will come online and post their stuff and undercut you. There are some hard core jewelcrafters in my server they will be longed on in SW for hours just looking at the AH. I might not bother to try to sell more than 6 gems a day if this is how it's going to be. In any event I heard there used to be an addon called auction profit master that automatically reposted your stuff to undercut them after you have been undercutted! I now know that addon has been discontinued and a new one took it's place, tradeskill master... anyone know how to use it cause I'm lost :(
