Dealing with a problem person in the gem market. He has driven prices down to 15-30g for all cut rares except for the big 3 reds, which are at 70g. Uncut metas are 70g and cut 80g. He posts 10-12 auctions at a time and will cancel/repost repeatedly. This has been going on for a bit over a week now. I've tried resetting gems several times to no avail. As soon as he sees it or signs on (I know his online times pretty well), he immediately cuts back down to his prices. If I buy out all 3 reds and reset at 200g (high but I expect to be bid down by everyone else to the server average of 150-160g), he'll immediately repost at his lower prices, under cutting by 50-75%. He's doing the same thing with belt buckles, uncut commons on daily days, enchanting scrolls, and folded obsidium, pretty much all of my markets lol.

To put it in perspective, we see 4 pages of obsidium, 10 pages of elementium on a busy day, and the average prices per stack are 55g and 50g respectively.

I've tried undercutting him and it works a bit, I get a few sales before he reposts, but they're at lower and lower prices. I've tried resetting and he reposts at his usual prices. I've tried talking friendly to see if he's trying to get out of the gem market or trying to hold it himself and he never responds. I've thought about trying to find his threshold, but it's got to be pretty low as he's satisfied with 1/3 to 1/4 of what he could be making, and with my buyout expiraments being followed by a dozen new postings, I don't know if I have the bank space to hold hundreds of gems of every color/cut.

I'm not ready to give up on every single market I play in yet. I just need some more ideas on what to do with this guy.

Should you blame the government?
Or society?
Or should you blame the country of Mcb?
Och yes, blame Canada, blame Canada

Sorry, couldn't resist after getting a board warning for something completely unrelated to this post (like being insensitive when it comes to nuclear disasters) :ugeek:
Wouldn't worry about it either, he'll probably edit it out anyway (censorship) and maybe I'll be born in the next life as a sensitive guy driving a blue frickin Prius ;)

Now back to you :D

Looks like you're up against someone intent on destroying (or taking over) a market that was already struggling with an oversupply of crafters.
Are you sure he cancels his posts? Cause if he is, you should realy mess with this guy by undercutting with ONE twelve-hour auction every time.
He's losing considerable posting fees on that wall of his every single time  So go for one-copper undercuts and watch him lose gold.
It will take time to run him dry as his ability to drive everyone out depends on the size of his pockets.
Try to lower the price down to the point where he'd be better off vendoring the stuff, if he undercuts that, go on a shopping spree ;)

Definitely do this if he's canceling and reposting 10-12 cut gems each time. It costs 56s25c to post a 12hr cut rare gem. If you undercut with one gem to his 10, he's losing 5g62s50c to replace his wall. Multiply this by however many gem types you'd like, and keep undercutting for as long as it amuses you. If he's not letting anyone else profit, make sure he's losing more gold than you are.

As it is my gem undercut is 1s and I only post 2 at a time unless I'm going to be gone. I've reduced it to 1c and 1 gem at a time. I've also bought up a few cuts I don't have but he does (thanks UMJ!!) that were already dirt cheap just to spite him. Right now though it seems someone else is investing in buying him out, so I'll let them fight the fight. In the meantime I'll deal with the lesser profits on belt buckles, enchanting mats, and blacksmith crafted items until this person gives up or the enemy caves.

Good news is the possible glyph - bot mentioned by another poster here in another thread on here was offline for most of the day, so I was actually able to sell quite a few glyphs today. So at a minimum that will make up for my losses until the gem market picks up!
